Question text Unit Assessment Regime Please read the information provided and then answer the questions below. The university has two types of hurdles:Competency HurdleThis is a type of hurdle that is pass/fail. You must meet all requirements specified by the hurdle to pass the unit. Threshold HurdleThis is a mark-based hurdle. You must achieve at least 45% on the specified group of tasks to pass the unit. In ENG1013, we only have competency hurdles. Therefore, to pass the unit, you must: pass three sets of competency hurdle assessments7 theory learning competency quizzes (attain 9/10 on each quiz) meet all requirements of the software practical learning competency assessment meet all requirements of the electrical practical learning competency assessment attain at least 50% (50 marks out of 100) for the unit total Please note that all of your unit assessment is accessible via the Assessments tab, then scrolling down and expanding the accordion sections at the bottom of the page. Failing to pass a competency hurdle will cap your unit total at 45% (45 marks). Students who have been granted repeating arrangements have been contacted via email with the alternate arrangements.Overview of unit assessment The following is an outline of all the individual competency hurdle assessments in this unit. Passing the competency hurdle will grant you a flat score of 20 marks towards the unit total. Practical Skills Learning Competency Comprises of two parts: Software Learning Competency (SLC) Electrical Learning Competency (ELC) Each part of the practical skills assessment is to be completed over a three week assessment period. SLC: Week 5 - Week 7 ELC: Week 9 - Week 11 You will be given access to the task (in the form of a Moodle quiz) a week ahead of the assessment period starting (i.e. week 4 for software). These tasks are to be completed in your own time individually. You will attend the scheduled face to face 'Assessment_Learning_Competencies' session in your timetable to get these marked off. You will be interviewed about the work and be asked to demonstrate the relevant tasks. Bonus marks Students who complete the assessment (and pass) the task in the first two weeks will receive bonus marks which is capped to the project score.SLCWeek 5: 2% bonus Week 6: 1% bonus Week 7: no bonus ELCWeek 9: 2% bonus Week 10: 1% bonus Week 11: no bonus Theoretical Knowledge Learning Competency Comprises of three areas: Part 1 - Software Part 2 - Electrical Part 3 - Materials Each area of the theoretical knowledge assessments consists of a set of moodle quizzes completed during the teaching period. You must complete the quizzes by Week 12, Friday 11:55pm. Part 1 - Theory 1 and 2 Part 2 - Theory 3, 4, 5, 6 Part 3 - Theory 7 To pass the theoretical knowledge hurdle, you must achieve 90% of the available marks on every theory quiz (i.e. 9/10). Students are given unlimited attempts, as well as access to a practice quiz, linked from each theory quiz. The Theory quiz will not provide feedback - just a final mark; but the practice quiz will provide feedback - just not a mark. It is recommended that students attempt the practice quiz for practice, then the actual theory quiz for marks - and you can do this as many times as you need to up to the deadline. The remaining 80 marks in the unit are achieved via completion of the following assessments described below. Content Tests (10%) There are two individual Content tests which are available during the teaching weeks: 5% - Part 1 - SE 5% - Part 2 - EE/ME Students have unlimited attempts on the tests, which must be completed by Week 12, Friday 11:55pm. The last attempt's score will count towards your unit result. Students will have 1h during each attempt. The test is auto-marked, and no feedback is provided on the test - only marks. You should use the practice quizzes and problem sheets for practice towards the test. Workshop-based Assessment (4%) The workshop-based assessment is assessed individually using FLUX, an audience polling system which is run during the scheduled workshops, every week from Week 1 to Week 12. if you attempt the flux during the workshop, you only need to have answered the question for the question attempt to count as 'answered'. If you attempt the post-workshop flux, you must get the question correct for the question attempt to count as 'answered'. To achieve the 4% mark value, you need to have answered at least 80% of all flux questions asked across the semester. Team Project (26%)The team project runs between Week 2 and Week 12 of the semester, and consists of a set of three milestones due across the semester in Weeks 5, 10 and 11. You will be assigned to a team on Tuesday in Week 1, and will stay in that team for all your practical classes. You will be given access to the project specifications in Week 2.
