If you watched the Evolutionary Arms Race, one of the stories was about leaf cutter ants. To refresh your memory (or tell you for the first time), leaf cutter ants harvest leaves, but do NOT eat the leaves. Instead they shred the leaves and "feed" them to a special type of fungus that they tend inside a "garden" in their nests. The "garden fungus" is very special and is only found in these ant gardens--it is dependent upon the ants to care for it, and the ants eat a part of the fungus in return. Answer the following questions: What kind of relationship exists between the leaf cutter ants and the "garden fungus"? mutualism If a type of "weedy" mold starts to grow on the leaves in the fungus garden, the ants will remove it. This reduces [選擇] herbivory competition between the "garden fungus" and the weed mold. That wasp will inject it's eggs into the ant's body, the baby wasp will develop and eventually eat the ant from the inside out. What is the relationship between the wasp and the ant?
