Section DRead this paragraph and answer the two questions below. In 2015, Australia joined 195 other countries in signing the Paris Agreement. This is a global deal intended to fight climate change. Its goal is to prevent global warming from rising any higher than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Almost every country in the world has signed it in an unprecedented show of global unity. Different strategies have been proposed to meet the promise of carbon neutrality by 2050. These include greater investment in renewable energy research, the expansion of solar power, and the protection and regeneration of forests to absorb carbon dioxide. Several countries aim to be carbon neutral earlier than 2050. However, despite signing the agreement, Australia has continued to support new coal and gas projects, which will add to greenhouse gas emissions. Evidence shows that without stronger action, Australia will fall short of its climate goals. Australia may be a comparatively small nation but the Paris Agreement is a global effort where the actions of every country matter. Questions 10 - 11. Choose a, b, c or d as the best answer. 10.
